Copying a Custom Course to Create Another Custom Course

Use this page to copy a system course in order to create a customized version of it. 

 Permission

To create, copy, and edit an assignment, the "Create/Edit Courses" permission is required.

  1. Click Courses

  2. Select Custom

  3. Filter and sort the courses list to locate the course to copy.

  4. Select the Copy  icon next to the course.

  5. Enter a unique name for the course.

     Tips

    The Course Name allows the following characters: a-z or A-Z (English letters); À-ÿ ("accented" characters); 0-9 (numbers); () (parentheses); , . + - _ ' (special characters, plus the pace).

  6. Either keep the subject as it appears or delete the characters and enter a new subject for the course.

  7. By default, the Allow other teachers to edit permission is set to No. This means only the the custom course creator can edit the course. To allow others to edit the course, toggle to Yes.

  8. The Course Version shows as Published because this is a copy of a published course.

  9. By default, the Enable Flex permission is set to No. This means Flex Assessments are not enabled for the course. To enable Flex Assessments, toggle to Yes.

     Note

    If copying a Flex course, there is no way to turn it off.

  10. Click Copy

  12. Add units, assignments, and assessments (if Flex enabled) as desired. Learn about the assessment type symbols here
  13. To adjust the placement, click the unit or assignment and move to the desired place.

     Note

    Take note of where the quizzes are located. Each quiz is created to cover the material in the lessons that precede it. If you drag a lesson which comes before Quiz 1 to a spot after Quiz 1, all of the
    questions related to that lesson move from Quiz 1 to Quiz 2. If you remove the lesson, the questions related to that lesson do not display on any quiz or test.

  14. To ensure the course is set up correctly, click the Validate OW-ValidateIcon.png icon.  If any error OW-CautionIcon.png or informational OW-InformationIcon.png indicators appear, click the indicator to see the message.

  15. Click the Preview icon to view the course.
